MIDNITE

“time is not counted from daylight but from Midnite...”

Hailing from St Croix, Virgin Islands

Lead singer Vaughn Benjamin's electrifying voice seems an amalgamation of many great voices in reggae-soulful, chanting, edgy. Vaughn's potent lyrical style and his brother Ron Benjamin's exquisite production, vocals, dub, arrangements, keyboard/bass musical directorship form the nucleus of this musical - rootsy sound, which includes:  Christian Molina (drums), Edmund Fieulleteau (guitar), Edwin Byron (guitar) and Ras L (keyboards).

Midnite weaves the cultural lyrics of "old school" roots music with modern day experiences to create a unique listening encounter. Roots Reggae - naked and raw is an apt description for Midnite's musical style, in which they forgo the frills of extensive remixes, overdubbing and other musical refinements.

"Unpolished" is the title of their debut album which includes such classics as "Don't Move", "Mama Africa", and "Love the Life You Live". Originally released in 1997, while the band was located in Washington, DC.

In 1999, Midnite linked up with Wildchild! Records for their second release "Ras Mek Peace". Incredibly, this album was recorded using only two channels and was mastered without any reverb, filtering, compression or equalization. Songs like "Hieroglyphics", in which graffiti is likened to ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, showcase the intelligent songwriting that pervades all of Midnite's works.

Following the release of Ras Mek Peace, Midnite returned to live in St. Croix so that they could work with the local musicians and make recordings at their African Roots Lab without any outside interference. The fruits of these labours can be found on their third album "Jubilees of Zion", which was released on their independent Afrikan Roots Lab record label. The expansive, hypnotic rhythms continue, alongside the messages of peace, universal brotherhood, and cultural resistance to Babylon.

In June 2002, Midnite made their Northern California debut at the 9th Annual Sierra Nevada World Music Festival. That same month saw the release of Midnite's fourth album "Seek Knowledge Before Vengeance". Released on their Afrikan Roots Lab record label, this album raises the bar of cultural roots reggae, as we know it today.

Midnite explodes in live performances with sets that often exceed 3 hours. Their vigorous, weighty sound, driven by the punchy bass lines creates a vibe that penetrates straight to the heart. These epic musical communions have earned Midnite an enormous following throughout the roots community.

By breaking all the rules, Midnite is setting a new standard. Armed with a firm foundation in Jah Rastafari, their natural talents, and a strong and uncompromising musical vision, Midnite champions a unique sound that is on the cutting edge of modern roots music.

THE LAMBSBREAD

Roots reggae from the Hawaiian Islands has started to receive a lot of attention in recent years. One of the smallest and most beautiful of these islands, is the island of Kauai. From this small island in the Pacific comes the mystic sounds of the Lambsbread. Bringing pure fyah to the stage, lead singer Kaya delivers a message of upliftment and positivity to the crowd. Adding her angelic voice and sweet harmonies to the music is female vocalist for the Lambsbread, Nadia. On stage they are backed by the Fyah Red Band. A unification of some of the top musicians in the Hawaii reggae scene.

The Lambsbread has been producing some of the toughest roots reggae music out of Hawaii, as well as having successful releases with several Jamaican producers. With a dynamic live show and songs that keep the people dancing all night, the Lambsbread has established themselves as one of the hottest upcoming reggae groups touring the West Coast this year. 2010 has been a successful year with the Lambsbread touring 5 US states. Having a strong following in Southern Ca, the Lambsbread passed through San Diego twice this year, with peformances at Earthday 2010 in Balboa Park (the largest earthday in the US with over 70,000 people attending), and appearing for Peter Tosh Day at the World Beat Center during there fall tour. Reaching the Northwest this year, the group did a week packed with dates lighting up stages in Seattle, Bellingham, and Eugene working with Blessed Coast Sound and Culture Yard productions. The Lambsbread also did 2 dates in St. Louis with Three Kings Productions, bringing some good vibes to the East St. Louis community. 2010 has been fruitful for the Lambsbread in there home market of Hawaii as well, with the group headlining events at some of the top venues in the islands, like the Shack(Waikiki), the Point(Kauai) ect. Promoters for larger events also chose the Lambsbread to support several of the major shows to come through Hawaii this year, featuring them with Barrington Levy, Bambu Station, and SOJA.

Not leaving the people without new music the Lambsbread released two hot singles in 2010, the dancehall smash “Tenshun” from Rootical Records Portmore, JA and the uplifting roots tune “Jah will Make a way” from Rumble Rock Recordz. Both tunes are in heavy rotation on Kauai radio. “Tenshun” is bubbling on radio worldwide with heavy support in Europe and JA. The group has had several international hits, starting with there first single from Zion High Records “Love in the House” 2004. The tune was released on 7in vinyl from Kingston, JA , and the single was heard worldwide. The video for the tune has reached half a million views on youtube and is watched by fans from Brazil, France, Netherlands, Germany, US, Hawaii and more. There next hit came with the tune “Mountain Top” feat. Prezident Brown, released by Lustre Kings 2006. Still in heavy rotation on Hawaii radio, this tune came out on the Red Razor compilation and spent 3 months in the top 50 selling reggae albums at itunes peaking at # 8. The Lambsbread also had success with the St. Croix reggae audience, with there combination “Teach Dem” ft. Ras Attitude, ending up as the top selling tune on VI Reggae Gold (2007 Carrion Records) Next to drop was the 7in single for “Jah will Make a Way” hitting #13 on the top selling singles at Ernie b reggae dist. the first week, and # 9 on the top selling singles at Juno UK the same week. The Lambsbread has 3 full length albums released from the small Kauai label Adin-nin Records. All three albums feature the Lambsbread with major producers in reggae music. Selling over 5,000 copies independently there cd’s are distributed by Border’s Book’s and Music(Hawaii) Ernie B Reggae, I-tunes and Amazon (Digitally online)

2011 looks promising with the Lambsbread kicking off the year touring all 4 major islands with St. Croix roots group Midnite. All of the mainland markets are asking for the next date, so the Lambsbread will be booking a string of dates in early spring. Also keeping it blazing in the studio, the Lambsbread will be releasing a new single with Rumble Rock- this ones hot!!!look out for it January 2011.

NEW FYAH SOUND W/ ALIKA

Originally from Kaneohe, Oahu, Alika started singing reggae when he moved to Kauai in 1993. The first band on the island that he jammed with happened to be a group called the Shakers. Since then Alika has backed up artists like Mikey Dread, Shinehead, and Marty Dread. The singer has opened up for international reggae acts such as Inner circle, Don Carlos, Junior Reid, Gregory Isaacs, Kymani and Damian Marley,Everton blender and a whole lot more. Alika's main mission is to spread the love and positive vibes that reggae has to offer. He currently is a singer/percussionist in a reggae band called"Revival."
