Heineken TransAtlantic Festival 2012 - NIGHT 1: Seun Kuti & Egypt 80. Opening set by Gold Dust Lounge.
Seun Kuti, Afrobeat scion, takes the stage on a lucky Friday the 13th of April. The spring tour brings the young bandleader with the massive band back to the U.S. for some major festival including TransAtlantic and Coachella. He keeps alive the heritage of his father, legendary Nigerian bandleader Fela Kuti, by leading his band Egypt 80 onwards. The band retains the classic fiery funk structure of Afrobeat. But collaborations and a fresh outlook allow young Seun to make his own mark. His debut CD was produced with Brian Eno, and a recent collaboration featured Calle 13. http://www.myspace.com/seunkuti
Gold Dust Lounge is a trio collective formed by Miami native Russell Mofsky after returning home in 2007. Think surf meets jazz, meets spy-fi, meets spaghetti western, filtered through a film noir lens with a bit of groove. Mofsky invites you to consider it the soundtrack for an imaginary film of your own making. http://www.golddustlounge.com
After show parties, free and open to the public, feature Miami-based award winning DJ producer Mr. Pauer
