Legendary British Ska/Reggae Band "The English Beat" reinvades the Hawaiian Islands
Jet Setter music productions launches its first concert with The English Beat, a 2 tone ska/reggae/pop band that emerged from the 80's British underground counter culture. Along with their contemporaries such as Madness, UB40, the Clash, the Specials & the Police, for over 30 years the English Beat's music has reached both sub+pop culture enthusiasts worldwide, of both older and younger generations.
The English Beat known for their reign in the eighties, being soundtracked in John Hughes films like Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and charting the Billboards with hits such as "Mirror in the Bathroom" and "Save it for later". They formed during an era of high unemployment and social upheaval in the United Kingdom, with the bases of their political and social consciousness. It was during the British 2 tone ska revival, which integrated black and white musicians, their cultures and fused soulful rocksteady/ska/reggae with eighties punk and rock influences. This music was a precursor to Hawaii’s own “Jawaiian” style of music.
Joining the 2 tone army, 808 Tattoo & Acid Wash, Oahu's premiere 80's club night, will be joining forces to help Jet Setter launch their debut event. There will also be performances by Hawaii's own Cherry Blossom Cabaret! Plus The Hell Caminos and Go Jimmy Go!
In December of 2009, The English Beat rocked Honolulu’s Pipeline Cafe and sold out the Maui's Maui Theatre. With such classic and influential sounds, who wouldn’t want an encore of The Beat? Hana hou! Get ready to "Twist & Crawl" into spring with their checkered past & timeless rhythm.
Cheers & aloha,
Joe Agogo
