What’s got two legs, is named after a classic dinosaur, and knows how to throw an unnervingly sweet and holler-inducing party? If T. Rex is the best you can do, some serious brushing up with the primer on partying needs to be done pronto. The correct answer lies behind door letter “D” for “Diplo” (short for Diplodocus) the virtuoso of all sounds funky with steez to spare.  Education’s loss was music’s gain the day Thomas Wesley Pentz (a.k.a. Diplo and Wes Gully) left teaching and turned his full attention towards the turntables for good.

From virtually unknown DJ to half the genius behind Hollertronix (the other half being DJ Low Budget), Diplo has spread his talents to producing, filmmaking, and promoting new talent from around the world. Extensive touring and travels coupled with an uncanny ability to find a wide variety of heretofore unheard of new talent led to his establishment of Mad Decent as a vehicle to disseminate the wide-ranging musical finds that had caught his attention. But that’s not all. The year 2007 also saw him founding a non-profit outfit called Heaps Decent for the indigenous and impoverished in Australia. In between all the jet-setting, dance floor ministrations, and tapping his finger on the pulse of undiscovered music, Diplo has continued his many collaborations and started Major Lazer with Switch.

This April 8th, Diplo brings his mad skills at mixing disparate elements for maximum satisfaction and effect to Vanguard LA.  Supporting DJs for the evening will be HARD’s own Destructo and Adam Auburn of Auburn Events. For those who haven’t had the pleasure of experiencing a Diplo-lead dance floor, now’s your golden chance. As for the rest of you lucky ducks who’ve seen the master at work, you know the score and don’t need further persuasion.
