Lifting off straight from Chi-Town and landing straight into one of Hollywood’s hottest venue this May 13th, is one of the Windy City’s most legendary offerings—no, not ooey-gooey deep-dish pizza, molecular gastronomy, or talk show gold standard Oprah, we’re talking house music titan and all around DJ’s DJ plus producer Derrick Carter.

Since his early days honing his DJ skills in his bedroom and subsequently diving headlong into the Chicago house music fray of the 90s, Carter has kept himself remarkably busy in the decades since. Opting to keep a low-profile despite his fame (labeled as the 66th most famous Chicagoan), he works mostly out of Europe now and exercises his expertise in mixing and production for numerous projects more so than making the occasional dance floor appearance. When he does though, it’s nothing short of a grand treat. Still keeping true to his house roots, Carter is one of the hallowed few with the chops to take the occasional foray out of the genre and seamlessly work in whatever funk, disco, soul and jazz that tickles his mood and make it work. The crowds he draws speak for themselves. Not to mention the glowing reverence younger DJs and contemporaries use when detailing their admiration and respect for his impressive talent.

Slink over to Vanguard on the 13th and treat yourself to a rare Carter sighting as he takes on the night with Mikey Velazquez and Left Minded. Like faraway stars in the universe, by the time you think you’ve spotted him, he’ll already be light years away to his next destination. So catch his set while you still can!
