When Listening to Alex Kenji...

Wednesday at 1:12PM on August 24, 2011

They don't love you like the Vanguard Hollywood loves you roared as I walked up to the line outside this particular Friday night Departure. Upon entering the Yeah yeah yeahs song Maps remixed by the dj duo We don't speak French was still playing followed by a remix of the Fugees and later on Passion pit spilled over the outside patio. To my pleasant surprise accompanying the fabulous female dj duo was a bongo player, several actually taking turns, and Alex Willems with his staff and fire dancing moves. To the left of the dj booth was Stephen Romio. He  is not only a creative inspiration, he is also a driving force in the LA art scene. Keeping himself busy we will be enjoying his art and eccentric energy at the next Departure.  His candid portraits freshly painted of party goers added to the excitement and warmth of the scene. Big thanks to Chris Jackson for throwing the event on the patio and jumping behind the scenes finishing out the night with his dub step influences on several great tracks. Our friend dj Dags one half of funk phenomenon was spinning in the gold room for your audible pleasures.  Hopping down to the main event, Alex Kenji. First off I would like to say, WOW! Sporting his black rolling stones tee surrounded by beautiful women in white dancing to the explosive progressive sounds penetrating the depths of your soul and filling you with the joy you feel speeding fast down the descent of a roller coaster. The crowd splintered and shook as the bass took hold of feet, hips and lips mouthed the words and begged for more. It was like a live action dance revolution straight from the heart of an Italian. Passion poured from Alex Kenji's finger tips with every button pushed and the throttle full steam ahead. If you have never listened to Alex Kenji before you have been warned. Break out some perseco, throw your head phones on and I dare you to hide those teeth. Alex Kenji is to house music like  Julius Ceasar is to Italy. Those are some lucky Italians.
